Deputy Borough President -

Matthew S. Washington was appointed as a Deputy Manhattan Borough President in September 2016. He is a Manhattan native – he grew up in East Harlem – is a product of New York City’s public schools, and served on Manhattan’s Community Board 11 for over 10 years, where served as its Chair for 6 years. In his professional life, Washington has served as Deputy Director at Friends of Hudson River Park, as Executive Director of Friends of the High School for Environmental Studies, and as Deputy Director of External Affairs at The Durst Organization prior to joining the Manhattan Borough President’s Office. He is a graduate of Alfred University.

 

Matthew believes in public service and has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, Voices UnBroken, Harvest Home Farmers Market, El Barrio’s Operation Fightback, the New York City Chapter of the New York League of Conservation Voters, Learning through an Expanded Arts Program (LeAp), CIVITAS and Make Music New York.
